My Story
While in college, the project that brought my passion, drive and enthusiasm to learn and actually complete it was about oral history of a community of people in Hawaii. Oral history is about passing on personal stories through verbal communication and preserving them today through electronic, digital devices as well as in print for future generations and to the public.
In my experience, oral histories are important because they pass on culture, family traditions, personal traits, likes, dislikes: it is a point in history, a recorded history.
Academically, I have recorded over 30 interviews with photos, opinions and stories. Today, the story I recorded is compiled and stored at the University of Hawaii library in Honolulu, Hawaii. I am very proud of this accomplishment. The story I collected was about Hawaii's Muslims and their history in Honolulu.
This brings me to my present day passion: scrapbooking for you. I combined my passion in helping others tell their personal stories with art, my artistic passion.
The colors, themes, embellishments, tools and techniques all aid me in bringing one's story alive. I started scrapbooking in 2003 when my first son was born; I was introduced to it by another military wife when our husbands were deployed to war zones.
I got hooked since. I started giving scrapbook albums as gifts; people loved it so much that I decided to transform my hobby into professional work. My style is simple and elegant and I listen closely to my customer's wants and needs. I want people to think when they relate needing help with preserving memories and experiences; they will think "Mona".
